The Passive Optical Network (PON) architecture has established itself as the access technology of choice among telecom operators for the mass delivery of broadband services to their customers. However, cost remains a major barrier to achieving this goal—with the OSP cost as the main barrier preventing network operators from large-scale deployment of fiber in the access loop. This white paper presents an access loop model that helps network operators address—and minimize—the major OSP cost challenge and examines two use cases based on Ciena’s 10G XGS-PON solution.
